Edith Namba is a courageous nursing leader whose 27-year journey has transformed patient care and public health in Papua New Guinea. Driven by the urgent needs she witnessed during cholera outbreaks and gender-based violence crises, Edith has pioneered systemic change in emergency care and gender-based violence response.
She played a pivotal role in piloting Family Support Centres in rural communities, trained health workers to deliver holistic care, and championed survivor-centered approaches in healthcare. Her efforts have not only reduced preventable harm but also advanced gender equity across the country.
In recognition of her outstanding volunteerism, Edith was honored by the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) for her contributions to the fight against gender-based violence. Her work redefines leadership in healthcare—not from behind a desk, but on the frontlines of crisis and community.
